Brazilian actress and singer Lua Blanco has died at the age of 39 after months of cancer treatment, her family announced on Sunday.

The family confirmed the death in a joint social media post. Her brother Daniel Blanco said she died in peace, “preenchida de amor” (filled with love) and “com a fé plena” (with full faith), surrounded by family and friends throughout her treatment, according to Times Brasil.

“I ask respect for our grief and silence in this challenging moment. Thank you for all the affection, as always,” he wrote.

Blanco rose to national fame playing Roberta Messi in the Brazilian version of the teen telenovela Rebelde, aired by RecordTV in 2011 and 2012. The production also spawned a pop group in which she performed alongside Sophia Abrahao, Chay Suede, Arthur Aguiar, Mel Fronckowiak and Micael Borges.

She went on to work in television, theatre and music, with TV roles including appearances in Malhação and A Força do Querer on TV Globo.

Blanco had not spoken publicly about her health in recent days. Her last social media post, shared on 13 October, was captioned “momentos de gratidão” (moments of gratitude) alongside photos with friends and family.

Her death was reported by multiple Brazilian outlets including Katav News, citing Metrópoles, Terra, Veja and G1, and by Portal N10, which quoted a joint statement from her five siblings.
